About Connecticut Form CT-8379
Connecticut Form CT-8379 is used by a nonobligated spouse who files a joint Connecticut income tax return and wants their share of a joint refund separated from an obligated spouse's debt. The form may apply when a Connecticut refund was, or is expected to be, applied against the other spouse's past-due child support, debt to a Connecticut state agency, tax debt to another state, or tax debt owed to the IRS.
File Form CT-8379 with Form CT-1040, Form CT-1040NR/PY, or Form CT-1040X when the nonobligated spouse claim applies. The PDF includes taxpayer information, allocation items, a nonresident and part-year resident Connecticut-sourced income chart, filing instructions, and line item instructions. Connecticut DRS will calculate the amount of refund owed to the nonobligated spouse.
Do not use Form CT-8379 to request relief from a joint Connecticut income tax liability that you believe should be paid only by your spouse or former spouse. Use Form CT-8857 for Connecticut innocent spouse relief, separation of liability, or equitable relief.
