About Virginia Schedule CR

Virginia Schedule CR is used to compute the income tax credits listed on the schedule and determine the amounts you can claim for the year. Its instructions cover use with Forms 760, 760PY, 763, and 765. Complete the credit sections that apply to your return, including any eligible credit carryovers from prior years.

The 2025 PDF contains eight pages. Sections 1 and 2 cover nonrefundable credits and their total, while Sections 3 and 4 cover refundable credits and their total. Section 5 combines the credits allowable for the current year. The last page also lists required enclosures for certain credits, including Form 502 Schedule VK-1 for the Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Payment Credit.

Use the separate Schedule CR instructions to check credit eligibility, limits, carryover periods, and supporting documents before completing the schedule. Some listed credits have expired but still allow qualifying carryovers. Enclose Schedule CR and the required supporting documents with your Virginia return.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are answers to common questions about downloading, printing, completing, and attaching 2025 Virginia Schedule CR.

Are the Schedule CR instructions included in this PDF?

The eight-page PDF contains the credit computation schedule and a list of certain required enclosures. Detailed credit rules and worksheets are published in a separate Schedule CR instruction booklet. Download the instructions for the same tax year as the schedule you are completing.

Where do I report the Schedule CR total on my return?

For 2025, Section 5, Part 1, Line 1A combines the allowable nonrefundable and refundable credits. Enter that total on Line 25 of Form 760, Form 760PY, or Form 763. Form 765 filers should follow the instructions for their unified nonresident return.

Does Schedule CR include both refundable and nonrefundable credits?

Yes. Section 1 computes nonrefundable credits, subject to the maximum credit available and each credit's rules. Section 3 includes refundable credits such as the Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Payment Credit. Use the separate totals in Sections 2 and 4 before combining them in Section 5.

Can I claim a credit carried forward from an earlier year?

Some credits allow unused amounts to be carried forward for a specified period. Schedule CR includes fields for prior-year carryovers, the amount usable this year, and any remaining carryover. Check the instructions for the particular credit, since carryover periods and limits differ and an expired credit may still have an allowable carryover.

What should I enclose when claiming a Schedule CR credit?

Enclose the completed schedule and the documents required for each credit you claim. Page 8 and the separate instructions identify supporting items such as approval letters, certificates, computation schedules, and Schedule VK-1. The form warns that missing enclosures may cause a credit to be disallowed.
