About Connecticut Schedule CT-CHET

Connecticut Schedule CT-CHET is used to contribute all or part of your Connecticut individual income tax overpayment to a Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET) 529 College Savings Plan account. The schedule identifies the CHET plan, account number, beneficiary, and amount of overpayment you elect to contribute.

Attach completed Schedule CT-CHET to the back of Form CT-1040 or Form CT-1040NR/PY when you choose to make a CHET contribution from your Connecticut overpayment. The total contribution from Line 4 is entered on Form CT-1040 Line 24 or Form CT-1040NR/PY Line 26.

The 2025 Schedule CT-CHET PDF includes space for up to three CHET accounts, beneficiary information, Fidelity Investments account numbers, contribution amounts, and instructions for completing the schedule. Contributions must be made into existing CHET 529 College Savings Plans, and the schedule says CHET contributions are irrevocable.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are answers to common questions about downloading, printing, completing, and attaching 2025 Connecticut Schedule CT-CHET.

When is 2025 Connecticut Schedule CT-CHET due?

Schedule CT-CHET is filed with your Connecticut income tax return, so use the due date for the return you attach it to. For most 2025 Connecticut individual income tax returns, the due date is April 15, 2026. If you need more time to file, review the extension rules in the instructions, but pay any tax due by the original deadline to avoid penalties and interest.

Who should use Connecticut Schedule CT-CHET?

Use Schedule CT-CHET if you have a Connecticut income tax overpayment and want to contribute all or part of that overpayment to a CHET 529 College Savings Plan account. The schedule may be used with Form CT-1040 or Form CT-1040NR/PY when a refund amount is available for a CHET contribution.

Where do I attach Schedule CT-CHET?

Attach completed Schedule CT-CHET to the back of Form CT-1040 or Form CT-1040NR/PY. The schedule instructions say to submit the correct year form to Connecticut DRS and not to use staples.

What information do I need for Schedule CT-CHET?

Schedule CT-CHET asks for your Social Security Number, each beneficiary's name, the Fidelity Investments account number for each existing CHET account, and the amount of your Connecticut overpayment you want to contribute to each account. Review the most recent CHET account statement before completing the schedule so the beneficiary name and account number match the account records.

Can I contribute to more than one CHET account?

Yes, but Schedule CT-CHET allows contributions to a total of three CHET accounts. If the same beneficiary has more than one CHET account, enter each account on a separate beneficiary line with the account number and contribution amount for that account.

Are Schedule CT-CHET contributions refundable?

The Schedule CT-CHET instructions say CHET contributions are irrevocable. In this context, irrevocable means that once the contribution is accepted for deposit, you cannot cancel it and ask DRS to issue that amount as a regular refund. If a contribution is rejected for deposit, the amount will be returned to Connecticut DRS and a refund will be issued to you as a paper check.

Can my Connecticut overpayment be reduced before the CHET contribution?

Yes. The Schedule CT-CHET instructions say an overpayment may be applied first to debts or taxes, including DRS amounts, other Connecticut agency debts, federal taxes, other state taxes, and 2026 Connecticut estimated tax. If your CHET contribution is reduced, you will receive an explanation.
